The First Day of School

叶明来自广东,
Yè Míng láizì Guǎngdōng,
Ye Ming comes from Guangdong,

今天是他到上海读大学报到的第一天。
Jīntiān shì tā dào Shànghǎi dú dàxué bàodào de dì yī tiān.
Today is his first day reporting to university in Shanghai.

他早早起床,
Tā zǎozǎo qǐchuáng,
He got up early,

带着行李来到学校。
Dàizhe xínglǐ láidào xuéxiào.
Bringing his luggage to the school.

校门口人山人海,
Xiàoménkǒu rénshānrénhǎi,
The school gate was crowded with people,

大家都在忙着报到、领宿舍钥匙和找自己的宿舍。
Dàjiā dōu zài mángzhe bàodào, lǐng sùshè yàoshi hé zhǎo zìjǐ de sùshè.
Everyone was busy registering, getting dorm keys, and finding their dorms.

叶明找到自己的宿舍,
Yè Míng zhǎodào zìjǐ de sùshè,
Ye Ming found his dorm,

打开门,
Dǎkāi mén,
Opened the door,

发现里面已经有两个舍友在整理行李。
Fāxiàn lǐmiàn yǐjīng yǒu liǎng gè shèyǒu zài zhěnglǐ xínglǐ.
And discovered that two roommates were already there organizing their luggage.

他们热情地和叶明打招呼。
Tāmen rèqíng de hé Yè Míng dǎzhāohū.
They warmly greeted Ye Ming.

“你好,我叫王伟,来自北京,”
“Nǐ hǎo, wǒ jiào Wáng Wěi, láizì Běijīng,”
“Hello, my name is Wang Wei, from Beijing,”

其中一个高个子男生笑着说。
Qízhōng yīgè gāo gèzi nánshēng xiàozhe shuō.
Said one tall boy with a smile.

“你好,我是李强,来自山东,”
“Nǐ hǎo, wǒ shì Lǐ Qiáng, láizì Shāndōng,”
“Hello, I’m Li Qiang, from Shandong,”

另一个男生接着介绍。
Lìng yīgè nánshēng jiēzhe jièshào.
Another boy introduced himself.

不一会儿,
Bù yīhuǐ’er,
Soon after,

第三个舍友也来了。
Dì sān gè shèyǒu yě láile.
The third roommate also arrived.

他带着微笑,
Tā dàizhe wēixiào,
He smiled,

自我介绍道:“大家好,我叫张浩,来自四川。”
Zìwǒ jièshào dào: “Dàjiā hǎo, wǒ jiào Zhāng Hào, láizì Sìchuān.”
And introduced himself: “Hello everyone, my name is Zhang Hao, from Sichuan.”

叶明也礼貌地回应道:“大家好,我是叶明,来自广东。”
Yè Míng yě lǐmào de huíyìng dào: “Dàjiā hǎo, wǒ shì Yè Míng, láizì Guǎngdōng.”
Ye Ming politely responded: “Hello everyone, I am Ye Ming, from Guangdong.”

四个人在宿舍里聊了一会儿,
Sì gèrén zài sùshè lǐ liáole yīhuǐ’er,
The four of them chatted for a while in the dorm,

互相介绍了自己的家乡、爱好和对新生活的期待。
Hùxiāng jièshào le zìjǐ de jiāxiāng, àihào hé duì xīn shēnghuó de qídài.

于是四个人一同出门,朝学校附近的一家餐馆走去。
Yúshì sì gèrén yītóng chūmén, cháo xuéxiào fùjìn de yī jiā cānguǎn zǒu qù.
So the four of them went out together, heading to a restaurant near the school.

在餐馆里,他们点了几道特色菜,一边吃一边聊。
Zài cānguǎn lǐ, tāmen diǎnle jǐ dào tèsè cài, yībiān chī yībiān liáo.
In the restaurant, they ordered several specialty dishes, eating and chatting at the same time.

通过这次聚餐,他们的关系更近了一步,也为未来的大学生活打下了良好的基础。
